This year there really was a spring, not just 3 months of March and then summer. But on one of the cooler days in May, Ms. Douglas visited the Falmouth Beautification Council’s annual plant sale at Town Hall Square. The Falmouth Beautification Council is a private non-profit organization that by planting and caring for flowers and shrubs makes Falmouth even more visually pleasing.

Falmouth’s Board of Selectmen issued a proclamation calling upon the citizens of Falmouth to Observe May 15^th, which has been designated by the United States Congress, as Peace Officer Memorial Day – with a moment of silence to honor Officers who have lost their lives in the line of service. Ms. Douglas captures the moving ceremony that honors Falmouth police officer Samuel Pierce, a 37- year old father and husband, killed in the line of duty on his motorcycle in August of 1933.

New producer Lisa Asendorf samples the atmosphere, including for-sale paintings by local artists, a famous bloody mary cocktail, and seafood prepared by chef Steve Fish at a new restaurant at a familiar setting.

The Nobska House Restaurant at 327 Gifford Street, in the shadow of The Coonamesset Inn, opened in May of this year.  The owners are Kevin Bosse, Steve Tessier and Denise Dias. At that location has been the Sorrento Cafe, Trabica and The Grasmere Pub.

Dedicated and hard – working, Ms. Asendorf is the founder of Wings for Falmouth Families, a group that offers financial support to families overwhelmed by medical and family crises. She was previously a financial adviser at Advest Inc., a brokerage firm in Falmouth.

Marilyn Rowland, who also is The Falmouth Enterprise Arts & Entertainment editor, interviews Falmouth writer, T. M. Murphy, known as Ted, his brother Seton and their mother, Margaret, and sister, Sister, about the brothers’ recently published novel, The Running Waves (PublishingWorks, Inc.).

The Running Waves is a departure for T. M. Murphy, in two respects. For the first time this, local, successful, mystery writer is joined by his brother, Seton, to author this novel. Unlike his Belltown Mystery series for children age 9-14, this book is for older teens and adults. The story is set in 1994 in a town much like Falmouth. It is a coming of age story and how the lives of two brothers are impacted by a tragic accident.

Ms. Rowland unobtrusively lets Seton explain how he asked his older brother, Ted, with help writing a book about staying off drink and drugs Seton, who had never written a book, wanted to show adolescents and young adults that turning to alcohol and drugs in times of tragedy is not an answer. Writing and publishing The Running Waves has been therapeutic for both brothers and a tribute to their resourceful mother and supportive sister.

“A Day in the Life of a Curator”: producer Cipperly Good

As a volunteer at FCTV, Ms. Good has produced some memorable interviews and travel shows. But this was her last act; she’s moved to Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport, ME.

For the last 2.5 years she has been the curator at the Falmouth Historical Society and Museums on the Green. A curator is a trained specialist responsible for an institution’s collections. Cipperly Good is very good at what she does. Carolyn Powers, current Executive Director at the Falmouth Historical Society, said about Ms. Good: “Her energy and professional training served us exceedingly well.”

At the Museum, Ms. Good used the collection and gathered novel artifacts to install three very successful exhibits: “Living Off the Land”, “Rise and Follow Thy Dream,” the life and times of Katherine Lee Bates, and the current “Greasy Luck: Tales of Falmouth’s Whaling Industry”. She leaves us with a rapid-fire look at what it took to set up “Greasy Luck”.
